Obituary

George A. Freed, 85, of Lawrence County Geri Care in New Castle, passed away the morning of March 8, 2014.Born June 30, 1928 in New Castle, he was a son of Angelo and Frances DeRosa Freed.He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Erma Jean Phillips Freed whom he married October 23, 1948.George served his country in the U.S. Army, and was a lifetime self employed contractor.Among his many interests were hunting, fishing and music. Most important to him were his family and his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.A lifetime member of First Assembly of God, he served as an Elder and Sunday school teacher for children and youth.In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, George M. (Karen) Freed of Pulaski, and Robert S. (Jennifer) Freed of Poland, OH; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Coates Freed of New Castle; one brother, David Freed of New Castle; one sister, Mary Pallott of New Castle; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by is parents, 7 brothers, 1 sister, and a son, Richard D. Freed.Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc, 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home and will be officiated by Rev. Chad Stoecker and Rev. Kenneth Meyer.Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to First Assembly of God, 2021 Pulaski Road, New Castle, PA 16105.
