Born on August 11, 1941 in New Castle, PA, he was the son of James and Stella (Maxwell) Gibson who preceded him in death.
Russ is survived by his wife of 57 years, Roberta "Bobbie" (Jenkins) Gibson.
Russ graduated from New Castle High School, class of 1959. He played the trumpet and was a member of all three bands – Marching, Dance and District. Russ was very interested in sports, especially the New Castle teams, the Pittsburgh teams and the North Carolina Tar Heels.

He worked for the Hultman Company for many years, traveling across Pennsylvania calling on courthouses to sell government supplies. He then opened his own business, Gibson Government Services.
He was happy when he could be out on the golf course with his buddies. He belonged to several golf leagues over the years. When he wasn't able to go golfing, he loved to watch all sports on TV. He also enjoyed putting puzzles together. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially the yearly summer vacation at his church camp, Camp Lambec. Beginning in 1969, Russ along with his wife Bobbie and their children and later grandchildren and great-grandchild enjoyed the beauty and fellowship of their camp.
Beside his love of sports, he and his wife belonged to the Castle Paws and Taws for over 25 years. Russ was also a lifelong member of Lodge of the Craft, No. 433, and he belonged to the former Optimist Club.
