George Richard Gilson, age 73, of New Castle, PA, passed away the morning of March 6, 2024, at his residence, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.

Born Jan. 14, 1951, in New Castle, PA, he was the son of the late Elmer and Gloria (Brown) Gilson.

On July 14, 1973, he married his beloved wife of 50 years, Carole L. (Jones) Gilson. She survives at home.

George was a graduate of Shenango High School. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army. He was a graduate of the Electronic Institute of Pittsburgh earning his associates degree.

He was a self-employed roofer and was the owner and operator of Gilson Roof Coating Service, where he enjoyed working alongside his sons. George loved his dogs and he will always be remembered for his helping, caring and selfless acts of service. George was a longtime member of Second United Presbyterian Church.

For all those who knew him, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

In addition to his wife, George is survived by his children, Shaad (Sarah) Gilson of Marietta, GA, Kimberly (Mark) Trontel of Hermitage, PA, and Christopher (Kelly) Gilson of New Castle, PA; five brothers, Theodore (Linda) Gilson, David (Barbara) Gilson, Randy (Nancy) Gilson, Rodney (Birdie) Gilson, Elmer (Kathy) Gilson; three sisters, Janice (Daniel) Calvert, Susan (Tim) Fruehstorfer, Gaye (Robert) Servedio; and his nine grandchildren who affectionately called him Pap-Pap, Joshua Gilson, Kimberly Gilson, Alexandra Gilson, Evren Kennington, Avery Kennington, Mark Trontel II, Anthony Trontel, Nicholas Trontel and Ryan Trontel.

In keeping with his wishes there will be no visitation or services.

Burial will be at Oak Park Cemetery.
