George L. Johnson, 82, of River Road, Lewisburg, PA entered into rest the morning of July 11, 2010 at Riverwoods Nursing Care Center, Lewisburg, PA. George was a former resident of New Castle for 76 years.Born on March 28, 1928 in New Castle to the late John A. and Anna Johnson. George married the former Etta Sickafuse on April 13, 1951, she passed away on April 1, 1989. He attended Harlansburg High School. George then joined the Army where he became a Purple Heart recipient of the Korean War. He retired as a laborer from Penn Dot. While residing in New Castle, George was a 55 year member of the Scott Township Volunteer Fire Department and a lifetime member of the Harlansburg Presbyterian Church where he also served as a trustee.George is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Rusty Graber of Lewisburg, PA; one sister, Marjorie Graham of New Castle; one brother, Harold Johnson of Burgettstown, PA and one granddaughter, Sarah Graber of Lewisburg, PA.In addition to his parents and wife Etta, George was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, John and Robert Johnson and four sisters, Dorothy Davis, Astrid Werner, Emma Brest and Margaret Johnson.Visitation will be Wednesday, July 14, 2010, from 9-11 a.m. at the Harlansburg Presbyterian Church, 385 Old Route 19, New Castle, 16101.A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Monica Hamilton of Harlansburg Presbyterian will officiate.Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to Harlansburg Presbyterian Church, 385 Old Route 19, New Castle, PA 16101.Arrangements are being handled by the R.
