George R. Magee, 81, of Ruth Street, New Castle, went to be with the Lord the afternoon of July 7, 2010 after an extended illness at Jameson Memorial Hospital North.George was born November 21, 1928, in New Castle to the late Benjamin Elder and Lucinda Glitch Magee.He married the former Leah Roberts on June 20, 1953. She survives.George was a 1948 graduate of New Castle High School and then attended Penn State at the Shenango Campus. He was the owner of George's Auto Body in New Castle.He was a member of the First Church of God where he served as a Sunday school teacher, Trustee Board member and an usher. George was formerly a member of Faith Country Chapel where he served as Sunday school Superintendent and served on the Board of Stewards.He enjoyed reading his Bible and praying. George also enjoyed building model airplanes and collecting antique model cars. He loved big band music of the early 40's, especially Glen Miller and Artie Shaw. George was known for his great sense of humor.In addition to his wife, George is survived by two daughters, Cathy Pautz of Fort Wayne, IN, Dianne Stansfield of New Castle; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Gail Magee of Lewisville, TX; nine grandchildren, David, Jonathan and Joshua Magee, Rachel (Andy) Grinnen, Patricia, Andrew and Benjamin Stansfield, Jessica (Jared) Budreau, Jennifer (Daniel) Frazier; and five great grandchildren.George was preceded in death by his parents.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at 1 p.m. at the First Church of God, 12 West Euclid Avenue, New Castle, PA 16105. The Rev. William Hunley will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be sent to First Church of God, 12 West Euclid Avenue, New Castle 16105 or the Gideon International, P.O. Box 48, New Wilmington, PA 16142. Arrangements are being handled by the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
