George W. Pennington of 427 E. Garfield Avenue, passed away the morning of September 26, 2016 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. He was born February 16, 1966 in New Castle to Mary Ann Pennington Shaffer and the late Delbert W. Pennington.
Upon graduation from Vo-Tech in 1984 he enlisted in the US Army and became a cook. He worked the last thirty years at many restaurants, most recently at the Johnson Club in Bessemer, Town and Country Banquet Center, Villanova Inn and Edward's Restaurant in New Castle. He had managed Texas Roadhouse and Garfield's Restaurants in Pennsylvania, Virginia and Iowa.
George was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins.
He is survived by his son, George M. Pennington (Breah-Ann Brady) of New Castle; three brothers, James R. Pennington (Jacqueline Sibeto) of New Castle, John A. Shaffer of Pulaski and Robert J. Shaffer of New Castle; his mother with whom he resided; his former wife, Laura Poling Eckley of Georgia; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Delbert Pennington in 2001, his father in 1997, and his step-father, James W. Shaffer in 1995.
Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 on Thursday at R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.
A funeral service at 11:00 AM on Friday at the funeral home will be conducted by Rev. Gary DeWitt of New Hope Wesleyan Church.
Burial will be at Castle View Memorial Gardens.
