Obituary

George Swogger Peters, 86, of New Castle, passed away December 14, 2012 at Butler VA Medical Center. Born November 6, 1926, in New Castle, he was a son of Frank and Georgia Swogger DePietro.He is survived by his wife, Audrey Crawford Peters, whom he married on October 3, 1953.George served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed by Pentex, formerly the Crane Company, for 30 years as a carpenter. He was a 50 year member of the Mahoning-New Castle Lodge #243 F&AM. He also was a member of the New Castle Consistory, Legion of Honor and Syria Shrine. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Philip Dean of New Castle, and Leslie and Jeff Wirth of Mt. Pleasant, PA; one brother, Russell DePietro of New Castle; two sisters, Vivian Lamorella and Audrey Costa both of New Castle; five grandchildren, Jessica Shevitz, Adam Dean, Ian Wirth, Quinn Wirth and Abigail Wirth; and three great grandchildren, Tucker Shevitz, Jacey Shevitz and Mack Shevitz. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Frank "Bud" DePietro and Duane DePietro. Visitation will be held on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Robert Strobel will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Erie Shrine Hospital, 1656 W. 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505.
