George H. 'Bud' Wharry, age 76, of Shenango Twp., passed away the afternoon of April 20, 2022, at his residence.
Born May 9, 1945, in New Castle, he was the son of the late George B. and Lucy (McGary) Wharry.
On June 22, 1968, he married his beloved wife of 53 years, Carolee (Butts) Wharry. She survives at home.
Bud was a graduate of Neshannock High School and went on to faithfully serve his county in the United States Army, in Vietnam. After 38 years of employment, Bud retired from Penn Power, where he worked as an A Lineman. Bud loved the outdoors, playing golf and helping anyone in need. What gave Bud the most joy in life, was spending time with his grandchildren, especially the times he was able to attend their sporting events. He was a member of Kings Chapel Methodist, Wesley United Methodist Church, and most recently, Grace United Methodist Ministry.
In addition to his wife, Bud is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Ropchack of New Castle, PA; one son, Jeff (Veronica) Wharry of New Castle, PA; one brother, William Wharry of New Middletown, OH; two sisters, June (Ralph) Young of New Galilee, PA, and Joyce Minteer of New Castle, PA; and three grandchildren, AnnaLynn Wharry, Jonalyn Wharry and Nicholas Kincade.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by son-in-law, Steven Ropchack III, brother-in-law Richard Minteer, and sister-in-law, MaryAnn Wharry.
Visitation will be held on Sat. April 23rd, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A service will follow immediately at noon with Pastor Bill LaVelle, officiating. Military rites will be performed by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.
