Gerald L. Brown, age 69, of New Castle, passed away the morning of July 29, 2015 at his residence. Born April 21, 1946 in New Castle, he was a son of Lyle and Verna Wright Brown. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Betsy Bloomquist Brown, whom he married November 22, 1969. A 1964 graduate of New Castle High School, Gerald attended New Castle Business College where he graduated in 1966. A 35 year employee of St. Elizabeth's Hospital of Youngstown, he worked in the maintenance department until his retirement in 2011. Mr. Brown was an active member of Croton United Methodist Church where he was a former choir member and was involved in the summer feeding program. He served as financial secretary for the trustees and was on the administrative board. Often, Gerald played the part of Santa Claus during the Christmas season. A fan of Star Trek, he also enjoyed reading and joining his friends at the Croton men's breakfast and coffee klatch. Most important to him was his love for his church and his family. In addition to his wife Betsy, he is survived by one daughter, Kaylie Brown of New Castle; one son, Stephen L. (Kristi) Brown of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two sisters, Linda Price of Sunset Beach, NC and Kathy Brown of New Castle; and one grandson, Nathan Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirley Brown. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A service will take place immediately following visitation Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
