Gerald 'Jerry' R. Mooney, Jr., age 74, of Shenango Twp., passed away the afternoon of March 16, 2022, at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Born Feb. 18, 1948, in New Castle, he was the son of the late Gerald R. and Mary Elizabeth 'Betty' (Body) Mooney, Sr. On Dec. 6, 1975, he married his beloved wife of 38 years, Gayle (Crawford) Mooney. She preceded him in death on May 14, 2014. Jerry was a graduate of Neshannock High School and Cedarville College. For several years he was employed by Friendship Community, where he was a payroll service representative and bookkeeper. Jerry also served as a Health Parent at Friendship Community, a Christian nonprofit group home helping individuals with intellectual disabilities and Autism. He enjoyed horses, golfing, and cooking but what gave him the most joy in life, was spending time with his family. Jerry was a member of Calvary Independent Church. Survivors include three daughters, Allison (Rob) Bucci of Enon Valley, PA, Courtney (Mike) Jones of Harrisville, PA, and Hillary Mooney of New Castle, PA; one stepson, Wayne Paul (Jennifer) Barrett of Michigan; three sisters, Janice O'Donnell of Ohio, Debbie (Paul) Davis of Edinboro, PA, and Pam (Jack) Butterworth of Hookstown, PA; 3 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, and 1 step-great grandson. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 21st from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A service will follow immediately at 11:00 AM with Rev. Chuck Fombelle, of Calvary Independent Church officiating. Burial will be at Castleview Cemetery.
