Gerald E. Robinson, 72, of 409 Boston Avenue, passed away the evening of March 7, 2013 at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born August 2, 1940, in New Castle, he was a son of Samuel M. and Avis M. Shaw Robinson. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathaleen Schetrom Robinson, whom he married on December 28, 1961. He was a 1959 graduate of Laurel High School. Jerry entered the United States Army beginning a 21 1/2-year career where he would later retire in 1982. During that time he served in the Vietnam War from 1966-1967 where he was a medic with the "Big Red One" After retiring from the Army, he worked for Inmetco in Ellwood City as a raw material sampler until retiring in 2006. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He also liked to cook and bake. He was a past member of Eastbrook Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Rhonda J. Barker of New Castle; one son, Gerald A. "Skip" Robinson and his wife Amy of Pittsburgh; three brothers, David T. and Martha Robinson of West Lafayette, OH, Gary L. Robinson of Sharon, PA, and Samuel R. and Lori Robinson of Edinburg, PA; one sister, Saundra and Garry Shields of New Castle; six grandchildren, Kristina (Bryan) Egetoe, Dakota Barker, Koreena Barker, Brienna, Hailey, and Alex Robinson; four great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Nicolette, Michael, and Noah Egetoe; and his mother-in-law, Verona Schetrom of New Castle. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2013, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and Monday, March 11, 2013, from 11:00 to 12:00 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 12:00 Monday. March 11, 2013, at the funeral home and will be officiated by Rev. Michael Spicuzza. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military rites. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
