Obituary

Gilbert A. Cox Jr. of Neshannock Township, passed away the afternoon of June 7, 2010, at the Jameson Care Center after a long illness.He was born July 26, 1923, in New Castle, to Gilbert and Dorothy Bailey Cox. He was married to June A. Warnock for 64 years. Gil was a World War II veteran serving in the Army Medical Corps in Iwo Jima for three years. He attended Vanderbilt University and Westminster College. He was employed in the engineering department of Penn Power from 1946 to 1983. After retirement he enjoyed spending the winters in Florida and dancing with Paws and Taws. He was a fan of Pittsburgh sports. Gil and June were members of Northminster Presbyterian Church.Gil is survived by his wife June, a son, John D. Cox of New Castle, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a sister, Joanne Steiner of Medina, Ohio.He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Julie A. Cowmeadow in January of this year, and a sister, Donna Matney.Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 2010, at the funeral home. The Rev. Andrew Jillson of Northminster Presbyterian Church will officiate.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Northminster Presbyterian Church, 2434 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA 16105.
