Gilbert J. Maggie, age 72, of Union Twp., passed away the afternoon of April 13, 2022, at his residence. Born Jan. 2, 1950, in New Castle, he was the son of the late Floyd and Dorothy (Hatchner) Maggie, Sr. On Aug. 23, 1985, he married his beloved wife of 36 years, Denise (Cook) Maggie. She survives at home. For several years, Gilbert worked for Garret Railroad, more recently known as Miner Rail Car, as a specialty welder and blueprint specialist. Gilbert loved history, especially the WWI and WWII era, and politics. What gave Gilbert the most joy in life, was spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, Gilbert is survived by two daughters, Heather (Thomas) Patterson of North Carolina, Amanda (Randy) Petricca of Georgia; one stepdaughter, Brooke (Dave) Christie of Slippery Rock, PA; one stepson, Joshua (Amanda) Maxwell of Moon Twp., PA; one brother, Floyd (Diana) Maggie Jr. of St. Albans, West Virginia; one sister, Judy (Lee) Berkley of Hillsboro, OH; and five grandchildren, Nicholas, Ashlee, Autumn, Abigail and Parker. Along with his parents, Gilbert was preceded in death by his infant son, Jason Maggie. Visitation will be held on Monday April 18th from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A service will follow immediately after visitation at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Claire Megles, officiating.
