Gladys Lorene Heckathorn Houk, of New Castle, went home to be with her Lord on July 1, 2012.She was born in New Castle on January 3, 1928 to Ralph Eakin Heckathorn and Gladys Pauline McCreary Heckathorn.Lorene was married to William Clair Houk for 65 wonderful years. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and poured her life into her family.Lorene was a faithful member of Calvary Independent Church for over 50 years. She loved to serve by teaching Sunday school, junior church and by keeping missionaries in her home.Lorene loved her family, flower gardens, baking and quilting. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ralph Heckathorn, Jr.In addition to her husband, Clair, she is survived by one brother, Earl Heckathorn of New Castle; three sons, David Houk, and James Houk and his wife Bobbie Jo of New Castle, Timothy Houk and his wife Loren of Harlansburg; a daughter Cindy Childs and her husband David of Grove City; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.Her family is grateful to the Lord for the many years that they had with her and for the wonderful memories they will hold in their hearts until they see her in Heaven.A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. at Calvary Independent Church. The Rev. Charles Fombelle will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Independent Church Missions Program, 424 E.
