Gloria J. Darwin, age 69 of New Castle, formerly of Martha Street, passed away the evening of Nov. 30, 2020 at Rhodes Estates. Born Oct. 19, 1951, in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Eugene L. and Thelma L. (Patton) Hoover. On September 11, 1971, she married her beloved husband, Robert H. Darwin. He preceded her in death. Gloria was a graduate of New Castle High School. She enjoyed seek and find puzzles, was an avid fan of Elvis, and was involved in Easter Seals and National MS Society. Gloria was a devoted wife and mother, enjoying time spent with her family, most of all. She will always be remembered for her amazing smile and her sweet and angelic disposition. Even throughout her courageous battle with MS, she rarely complained as she had an extraordinary faith in her Lord and Savior. She was a member of Hoover Heights CMA, where she faithfully attended. Gloria is survived by her two daughters, Kristina L. (Robert) Rule of Boardman, OH; Rebecca I. Tanner of New Castle, PA; one brother, Eugene (Jennie) Hoover of Iowa; one sister, Susan Heaberlin of New Castle, PA; a brother-in-law, Samuel Heaberlin; a sister-in-law, Terri Hynes of FL; and four grandchildren, Madison Rule, Austin Rule, Sydney Tanner and Aspen Tanner. In addition to her parents and husband, Gloria was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Hoover and one sister, Margaret Heaberlin. Visitation will be held on Friday Dec. 4th from 10:00 a.m. – noon, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A service will take place immediately after visitation, at noon, with Rev. James Llewellyn, officiating. All visitors are asked to adhere to the CDC guidelines regarding wearing face masks and social distancing. Burial will be at Savannah Cemetery.
