Grace D. Lyon, 101, of New Castle, passed away the morning of March 5, 2020 at Jameson Care Center in New Castle. Born December 19, 1918 in Wildwood, PA, she was the daughter of Jay and Gladys H. (Dunham) Denny. She was preceded in death on July 7, 1973 by her husband, John W. Lyon, whom she married September 13, 1942. A graduate of Butler High School, Grace was a homemaker. In earlier years she was employed with Bell Telephone as an operator and at Meek's Jewelers as a salesclerk. She was a member of Wimodausis, Jameson Junior Guild and Eastern Star. An active member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church, she served as both a deacon and elder and was a member of the Irving Sunday school class. She is survived by her five sons, Col. Thomas (Elizabeth) Lyon of Yorktown, VA, William (Eugenia) Lyon of New Wilmington, PA, John (Kathy) Lyon of Wilmington, NC, Rev. Gary (Lisa) Lyon of Leechburg, PA and Jerry (Darla) Lyon of Fort Worth, TX; one sister, June Gregg of Butler;14 grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Howard Denny and one sister, Florence Klugh. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, from 5:00-8:00 pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral will take place on Saturday, March 14, at 10:30 am at Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church, 220 Clen Moore Blvd., New Castle, PA. The Rev. Aaron Christy will officiate.
