Harold Thomas Freed, beloved husband, father, grandfather, died Friday, Dec. 27 at the age of 93. He leaves his wife of 71 years, as well as 3 children, (Carol Phelps of Floyd, VA, Jack Freed and wife Becky of New Castle, PA, Thomas Freed and wife Maryann of New Castle, PA) 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews to mourn his passing. Harold was preceded in death by his father George, mother Grace and his three siblings (George Jr., Arthur, and Peggy.) Harold was born Dec. 2, 1926 in Bullskin Township, Pa. near Connellsville. The family moved to Ellwood City, Pa., where he attended secondary school. He served in the Navy as a Seaman 1st class during World War II. In 1948, Harold married Emma Jean Bookamer of Ellwood City, whom he met at a local ice cream shop. Harold attended Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana. After returning to Ellwood City, Pa. with his young family, following in his fathers footsteps, he became a journeyman electrician (local 712). In 1967 the family moved to New Castle, PA, where he remained in his profession until his retirement at the age of 62. During retirement, Harold and Jean enjoyed traveling, often heading south to visit with their daughter and family in rural Virginia. Harold was an avid gardener and enjoyed listening to music on one of his many radios. Harold attended the First Church of God his entire life, most recently in New Castle, Pa. He loved the Lord, loved to sing hymns and study the gospel. He lived a Christian life from beginning to end. He will be missed. A memorial service will be held at First Church of God, New Castle, PA on January 11, 2020 at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Bill Hunley presiding. Arrangements have been entrusted to the R.
