Harold R. Layton, 81, of Edinburg, passed away the afternoon of January 11, 2013, at Edison Manor. Born June 24, 1931, in New Castle, he was a son of Wilbur N. and Elizabeth R. Gilmore Layton. He married Mary Cartmell on October 29, 1953. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2011.He was a graduate of New Castle High School and received his Business Degree from Youngstown State University. Harold served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict in the field of communications in Australia. Harold was employed with First National Bank for 38 years. He had many interests, including fishing, hunting and wood turning. He also enjoyed travel and was an avid reader. Harold was a member of the former First Christian Church. He is survived by two daughters, Jan Stevenson of Cleveland, OH, and Karen Bobic and husband Ronald of New Castle; a brother, James C. Layton of North Carolina; and four grandchildren, Michael Stevenson, Matthew Bobic, Adam Bobic and Ethan Bobic. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2013, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A memorial service will take place immediately following visitation at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013, and will be officiated by the Rev. Andrew Jillson.
