Harold Frederick Marttala, 83, of 1134 Roosevelt Street, died the morning of August 21, 2010, at the Avalon Nursing Center.Born June 10, 1927 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Henry and Elina Halttunen Marttala.He married the former Anna Gibson on October 7, 1950. She survives.Mr. Marttala was a driver for the Pearson Brick Company and then Carlson Mining.He was an Army veteran serving in Battery B 115th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion.He was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time with this family. His family meant the world to him and he also to them.He will be sadly missed by three daughters; Susan F. Bowman of Columbus, Ohio, Sharon L. and Doug Tomczyk of Pulaski, and Andrea I. and Robert Hill of Cranberry Twp; one son, Gary F. and Lori Marttala of Hermitage; five grandchildren; and one brother, Norman Marttala of McMinnville, Tenn.He was preceded in death by three brothers; Andrew Marttala, Henry Marttala and Donald Marttala; and two sisters, Jeannie Pekkanen and Florence Guterba.Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 25, 2010 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A service will be held Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
