Harriett M. Rice, 94, of Jameson Care Center, passed away the afternoon of November 3, 2011 at Jameson Care Center.Born July 29, 1917 in New Castle, she was a daughter of George and Esther Harris Beaton.She married Floyd Rice in 1934. He preceded her in death on August 30, 1992.Harriett was the co-owner of Rice's Market in New Castle.She enjoyed golfing and bowling and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Sally L. Mauk of New Castle and Betsy L. and Don Latore of Moreland Hills, OH; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert L. and Kathleen Rice of Strongsville, OH; her companion, Edward Porada; seven grandchildren, Susan, Doug, Marcie, Kimberly, Kevin, Kelley, and Keith; two step-grandchildren, Russell and Allison; and 14 great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, George, William and Robert Beaton; and one son-in-law, Richard Mauk.A private funeral service was held at R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. The Rev. Canon Dennis Blauser officiated.
