Harry C. Irwin, Jr., 82, of Shenango Township went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 in Jameson Hospital. Born March 22, 1931, in New Castle, he was a son of Harry C. Sr. and Ruth Fraser Irwin. He married the former Josephine L. Proudfoot on Aug. 27, 1952. She survives at home. They would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary next month. Mr. Irwin was a 1948 graduate of New Castle High School. He served in the Navy from 1949 to 1950 as an EM/3. He worked for 31 years at Medusa Cement Co. in Wampum, where he was a chemical analyst, and later, chief chemist. He retired from Essroc Cement in Bessemer after 15 years as chief chemist. Mr. Irwin was a member of Calvary Independent Church, where he had served as an elder and an usher. A longtime Pittsburgh Steelers fan, he enjoyed reading, traveling and being with his family. He is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, Jeffery Irwin of Shenango Township, Daniel and Sandy Irwin of South New Castle Borough, Mark and Melda Irwin of Pulaski and Matthew "Chris" Irwin of Sharpsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Lori Jo and Sam Robinson of Edinburg; a sister, Carol Micco of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Chuck Fombelle of Calvary Independent Church and the Rev. John Yergan of First Baptist Church presiding. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct a military service. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Independent Church, 424 E.
