Harry W. McEwen, 84, of Shenango Road, New Castle, passed away the morning of Jan. 4, 2012 in New Wilmington.Born July 4, 1927 in New Castle, he was the son of Charles Bland and Mabel Taylor McEwen. Harry married Jean Marie Black on July 29, 1950. She survives. He graduated from New Castle High School and served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. Harry was a 61 year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 66, District 2 in Youngstown. He was an avid bowler and Steeler fan and loved taking care of his pet cats. Harry attended Arlington Avenue Free Methodist Church.In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gordon McEwen of Slippery Rock and Brad and Barbara McEwen of New Wilmington; and two sisters, Thelma Botsford of Spring Harbor, MI and Ruth Reynolds of Ohio.He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Grace Vredenburg and Helen Ramsey; and a daughter-in-law, Debra Bakewell McEwen.Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will follow the visitation at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at the funeral home. Pastor Rob Kifer of Pulaski United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
