Harry H. Smith Jr., 82, of New Castle, passed away August 21, 2010 at UPMC, Presbyterian Hospital due to complications of surgery.He was born December 7, 1927 in New Castle. He graduated in 1945 from New Castle High School. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He joined the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in 1952, graduated from OCS in 1955, fixed wing flight school in 1957 and helicopter school in 1960. He earned the Army Master Aviator Wings. He retired as Chief Warrant Officer 4 in 1988 after 33 yrs, 4 mo, 2 days of military service. He worked as a corporate pilot for many years before ending his career as a national guard helicopter instructor at Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania.He is survived by his loving wife Louise I. Morris Smith, whom he married on June 20, 1947; sons; Dane Smith and wife, Beverly of Shelby, Ohio, and Murray Smith and wife, Marsha of Crete, Illinois; a daughter Laurell Rosati and husband Vince of New Castle; grandchildren, Shannyn Smith of Arlington, VA, Courtney & Terry Traut of Vermilion, OH, Ryan Smith of Joliet, IL, Lauren Smith of North Olmsted, OH, and Kayla and Jared Rosati of New Castle;and he was especially proud of his great-granddaughters, Allison and Colleen Traut.In honoring his request, there will be no visitation or service at this time.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Experimental Aircraft Association, P.O.
