Harry Alton Spiker, 91, of New Castle, passed away the morning of February 28, 2021 at Butler VA Medical Center. Born November 24, 1929 in Leesburg, PA, he was the son of Ezra Daniel Spiker and Clara Pearl (Crawford) Spiker. Harry is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Carolyn (Grossman) Spiker, whom he married June 23, 1956. After attending the New Castle Area schools, he entered the US Army during the Korean Conflict where he received the Purple Heart. He gained employment with Republic Steel for 35 years as a train/crane operator until his retirement. He was also a Master Mason bricklayer. Mr. Spiker held membership with the Masonic Lodge 243 and the Coachman's Club. A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a canoe trail leader for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Spending time with his family was one of his greatest enjoyments. He was a member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Peggy Ann (Thomas) Poulton of Westerville, Ohio; two sons, Richard Alan Spiker of New Castle and Harry A. Spiker, Jr. and wife Kristin of Oakland, MD; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Arleigh Joan Spiker and Marcia Lynne Spiker; two brothers, Floyd Spiker and Gerald Spiker; two sisters, Pauline Fulkerson and Doris Leitner; and one great-grandson, Joshua Baker. A private service will be held for the family with the Rev. Michael Spicuzza officiating. Military honors will be performed by the New Castle Area Honor Guard. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are being handled by the R.
