Obituary

Harry J. Whitlatch, 94, formerly of Shenango Township, passed away the afternoon of March 13, 2019 at Shenango-on-the-Green in New Wilmington. Born November 13, 1924 in New Castle, he was the son of Harry and Grace (Boalick) Whitlatch. He was preceded in death on April 29, 2003 by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Aline (Turner) Whitlatch, whom he married February 24, 1946. He subsequently married Ruth Gardner Whitlatch who also preceded him in death. Harry served his country during WWII in the Army with the 39th Field Hospital, attached to the 9th Air Force as a Technician Fifth Grade. He was formerly employed with Pennsylvania Engineering until he took employment with the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier until his retirement. He, along with his wife Aline, were the co-owners of Turners Vacuum Sales and Service. Among his many interests, Harry enjoyed trains, fishing and travel, and most importantly, time spent with his family. He was of Christian faith. He is survived by one son, Robert D. (Jackie) Whitlatch of Conway, South Carolina; one daughter, Cheryl Kelly of Ellport, PA; 3 grandchildren, Rob Whitlatch, Lori Ott-Kolhmeyer and Christine McDanel; 3 step-grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 4 step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Laura Carr, Ruth Hoover, Helen Whitlatch and June Trick; and two granddaughters, Robyn Ann Whitlatch and Lisa Marie Buchta. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 16, from 2:00-4:00 pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A Memorial Service will take place immediately following the visitation at 4:00 with Pastor Peggy Suhr Barkley of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellwood City and Claire Megles of Kindred Hospice officiating. A private burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be offered in Harry's honor to Shenango Township Fire Department, 2424 E.
