Hazel Ruth Slagle Eckman, Age 91, formerly of 8 Cecil St. New Castle, passed away on Friday, April 17th, 2015 in Jameson Hospital. Born Sept. 7th, 1923 in Templeton Pa., she was the daughter of the late Herbert F. and Hazel Austin Slagle. She married Elmer Eckman in 1945 and he preceded her in death Sept. 1, 2003. Hazel was a homemaker but in her early years she worked for Bell Telephone as an operator in New Kensington and was a waitress at various restaurants. Hazel enjoyed cooking and loved being a wife and mother and looking after her family. Hazel is survived by a daughter Sandy (John) Jordan of New Castle, three sons Larry (Rosie) Eckman of New Castle, Greg Eckman of North East, Pa., and Douglas (Sharon) Eckman of New Castle, three brothers Herbert C. Slagle of North Lima, Oh, Robert S. Slagle of New Bedford, Pa., and Harold Butch Slagle of New Castle, she is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband Hazel was preceded in death by a sister Murial Hankey and two brothers Charles R. and Walter R. Slagle. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00pm until 8:00pm and Tuesday from 10:00am until 11:00am at the R. Cunningham F.H. & Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington rd., New Castle. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:000am at the funeral home with the Rev. Andrew Jillson officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery.
