Helen Jane Jacobson, 100, formerly of Oakwood Avenue, passed away the afternoon of December 28, 2012 at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born March 20, 1912, in New Castle, she was a daughter of Fred E. and Bertha Boyd Martin. Preceding her in death on March 3, 1974, was her husband, Francis H. Jacobson, whom she married June 12, 1935. She was a graduate of Union High School in 1929 and attended Slippery Rock State College.She was a shoe clerk for the Economy Shoe Store and a homemaker. Prior to her membership at New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Helen was a member of Second Presbyterian Church where she was an elder and cooked for the youth group. Among her many interests, Helen enjoyed sewing, cooking and crocheting. She was an active member of the Mahoning Valley Grange for over 85 years. She is survived by a daughter, Margie (James) Morris of Wadsworth, OH; two sons, Richard (Jayne) Jacobson of Pulaski, PA and Martin D.(Nancy) Jacobson of Eskridge, KS; a brother, James W. Martin of Edinburg, PA; nine grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Schofe. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Richard Nero and The Rev. Nancy Jacobson will officiate.
