Obituary

Helen Lucille Donaldson Patterson, 98, of New Castle passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the Jameson Care Center. Born August 6, 1915 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late William and Jessie Fisher Donaldson. She married Raiford W. Patterson on June 6th, 1934, and they were happily married for nearly for nearly 60 years. Raiford preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 1993. Helen was a homemaker who loved caring for her family. She worked as a clerk for Strous's Department Store for eight years, and she was a playground supervisor at Neshannock Elementary School. She volunteered at Jameson Hospital as well as the City Rescue Mission. Helen was member of the Shenango Presbyterian Church and both its Woman's and Sewing Circle. She joined Second Presbyterian Church in 1947 and was a long time member. She is survived by two daughters, Shirley and her husband, Jack Cline of Grove City and Glenda and her husband, Melvyn Davis of Greenwood, S.C. She and Raiford were grandparents to five grandchildren whom they dearly loved, and their family has expanded to include 13 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by her sisters, Olive Mason and Dorothy McCrumb; and a brother, Elmer Donaldson. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, from 10:30 till the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory inc., 2429 Wilmington rd., New Castle. The service will be conducted by Rhe rev. Amy Na. A private burial will follow in Fair Oaks Cemetery in New Wilmington. Memorial contributions can be made to The Donaldson Estate, a family memorial, at Shenango Presbyterian Church, 3144 Wilmington Rd., New Castle Pa. 16105.
