Helen Louise Schmidle Reed, 86, of Shenango on the Green, New Wilmington, formerly of Hunters Woods Blvd., passed away the afternoon of July 18, 2011 at Jameson Hospital North.Born Feb. 11, 1925 in Connellsville, PA, she was the daughter of the late John George and Sylvia Mae Albright Schmidle.She married Paul H. Reed on July 12, 1947. He survives.Helen graduated from Connellsville High School in 1942 and from The Pennsylvania State University in 1945 with a B.A. degree in Education. She taught at Ellwood City High School and Mt. Jackson High School.Helen was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was a former Sunday school teacher.She was an active member of Jameson Junior Guild and former president of the Guild. She also served on Jameson Hospital Board of Directors during her term as president of the Guild. Helen was a member and past president of the Walmo Garden Club, a former member of Neshannock Township School Board and past chairperson of Pearson Park, and a member of the New Castle Country Club.In addition to her husband, survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Martin Tjiattas of Cherry Hill, NJ; two sons and daughters-in law, P. Douglas and April Reed of Dracula, GA and Joel G. and Kim L. Reed of Parker, CO; a brother, Lawrence Schmidle and wife Gail of Connellsville, PA; a sister, Sylvia Schmidle Lafranchi and husband, William of Verona, PA; a sister-in-law, Ada Schmidle of Connellsville, PA; six grandchildren; Jennifer Hooper and husband, PJ Hooper, Lindsay Tjiattas Saleski and husband, Justin Saleski, Christopher Tjiattas, Chelsea Reed, Grant Reed and Nick Reed; and one great grandson, Jarret Hooper.Helen was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Earl Schmidle.Visitation will be Friday, July 22, 2011, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, July 23, 2011, from 10-11 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 23, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Thomas Willcox will officiate.
