Helen Myra Suter Shirey, 87, of New Castle, passed away on December 4, 2015 at Firsthealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, NC. Helen was born on May 23, 1928, in Youngstown, Ohio, to the late J. Paul and Myra Seward Suter. She married Samuel Shirey on September 15, 1956. He survives. Mrs. Shirey was a wonderful homemaker, wife and mother to her four children, and later, a caring grandmother to her four grandchildren. Helen was a graduate of Rayan High School, in Youngstown. She was a member of the Eastern Star and enjoyed painting, sewing, needle point, golf and bowling. Mrs. Shirey was a dedicated member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church and Community Presbyterian Church in Pinehurst, NC. In addition to her husband, Helen is survived by her 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Betsy and Charles Lucky of New Castle, Linda and Jim Colleran of New Port Coast, CA; one son and daughter-in-law, Paul M. and Roberta Ann Shirey of Midland, PA; and 4 grandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her parents; one son, Samuel M. Shirey, Jr. ; 3 sisters, Dorothy Fritz, Alice Zwank, and Roselyn Smith; and one brother, Larry Suter. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev Chris Weichman will officiate. Burial will take place in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
