Helen L. Snyder, 87, of 3214 Grenway Road, New Castle, died the afternoon of April 8, 2010 at Jameson Hospital.Born March 4, 1923 in New Castle, she was a daughter of Fred and Anna Schmidt Singer.She married Howard M. Snyder on November 4, 1944. He survives in New Castle.Helen was a 1940 graduate of New Castle High School. She then graduated from Youngstown State University with high honors and received her Masters in Education from Westminster College.She was a teacher at Union Elementary School for twenty years. Prior, she was an operator and supervisor with Bell Telephone Company.Helen played the piano and organ and enjoyed boating, crossword puzzles, gardening, flowers and sewing. She was a former member of Paws and Taws Square Dancing Club and the Jameson Junior Women's Guild where she assisted in organizing the Hostess Shop.She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.In addition to her husband, suvivors include two sons and daughters-in-law; Gary D. and Jeanne Snyder of Iowa City, Iowa and Blair L. and Patricia Snyder of Scottsdale, AZ; two sisters, Anna Catherine Hoye of New Wilmington, PA and Carolyn Lee Juran of Prescott, AZ; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son, Glenn Snyder.Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 11, 2010, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA.A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 12, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev.
