Obituary

Helen L. Sweet, 93, of New Castle, passed away the morning of December 27, 2018 at her residence. Born June 29, 1925 in Newmansville, PA, she was the daughter of Frank and Ruth Sigworth Flick. She was preceded in death on January 6, 1994 by her beloved husband, Thomas C. Sweet, Sr. whom she married on September 24, 1946. Helen was a graduate of the Jameson School of Nursing through the U.S. Army Cadet Nursing Corps. Prior to her employment with Jameson Hospital as a registered nurse in the Obstetrics Department, she worked at the B&W Tube Company during the war. Among her interests she enjoyed antiquing with her husband Tom and was a member of Paws and Taws. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she attended the Sparklers Bible study group and the Ethel Hurst Sunday School Class. Helen will always be remembered as a loving and wonderful mother and grandmother. She is survived by three daughters, Phyllis (Stephen) Caravella of Pulaski, Beverly (Gregory) Huling and Barbara K. Sweet of New Castle; two sons, Blair S. (Tracey) Sweet of Sharon and Thomas C. Sweet, Jr. of Neshannock; two brothers, Virgil (Jane) Flick of Tionesta, PA and Donald (Shirley) Flick of Beaver Falls, PA; one sister, Betty Bowen of Tionesta; one sister-in-law, Laura Flick of Tionesta; 12 grandchildren; Amanda Reader, Josh Huling, Kiley Huling, Katey Rendos, Blair Sweet, Dennis Sweet, Jennifer Kruger, Krista Reddick, Courtney Caravella, Cody Caravella, Robin Adler and Thomas Sweet ;and 16 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Flick and one sister, Doris Tucker. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 at First Baptist Church, 984 W. Maitland Lane, New Castle. A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation on Sunday at 4:00, with the Rev. John Yergan officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
