Howard Jake Claypoole, Jr., age 89, of New Castle, passed away the evening of May 23, 2017 at his residence. Born June 4, 1927 in Butler County, he was the son of Howard Claypoole, Sr. and Myrtle Ace Claypoole. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Claypoole and subsequently married Alvadia Claypoole on September 12, 2011. Jake was employed with City Asphalt for 34 years until his retirement at age 62. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Myrtle Callen and Helen Jean Keidel of New Castle; a step-daughter, Joleine Oliver of Ohio; one son, Ronald Claypoole, Sr. of New Castle; one brother, Charles Claypoole of Butler, PA; 50 grandchildren; 100 great-grandchildren; and 100 great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Florence Burk and one step-daughter, Bessie Stoner. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 25, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Castle View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
