Howard L. McConnell, age 91 of New Castle, passed away the early morning of December 5, 2019, at his residence. Born September 8, 1928 in Princeton, PA, he was the son of the late Ralph & Beulah (Brown) McConnell. He married his beloved wife of 67 years, Clara L. (McElwain) McConnell, on June 3, 1948. She preceded him in death on March 18, 2016. Howard was a 1945 graduate of Slippery Rock High School. He was a Sergeant in the United States Army, serving in Korea. Howard enjoyed farming and took pride in building his own home; however what he enjoyed most, was spending time with his family. He was a member of Rose Point Reformed Presbyterian Church. Howard is survived by two sons, Jeffrey H. (Dorinda) McConnell of Fredricksburg, VA, Alan L. (Kim) McConnell of Camp Hill, PA; one brother, Kenneth McConnell of Sevierville, TN; one sister, Marjorie Young-Currie of Portersville, PA; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. McConnell was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Visitation will be held on Sunday Dec. 15th from 2:00 - 5:00 PM, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, Pa. and on Monday, Dec. 16th from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at Rose Point Reformed Presbyterian Church, 1166 Church Alley, New Castle, PA 16101. A funeral service will take place on Monday Dec. 16th at 11:00 AM at Rose Point Reformed Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Charles Brown officiating. Military rites will be performed by the New Castle Area Honor Guard. Burial will be alongside his wife at Rose Point Cemetery.
