Howard E. "Corky" Turner, peacefully went to be with his Lord Friday, February 26, 2016, at The Butler VNA Hospice with his loved ones at his side. He was born on July 11, 1928 in New Castle to Howard and Nettie Brant Turner and he was a graduate from Shenango High School in 1948. The beloved husband of Elizabeth Nye Turner and dear father of Howard Turner, III, (Amy), Pamela Turner (Edward) Fosnaught, Craig (Rhonda) Turner of New Castle, Barbara Turner Findler of Fallbrook, CA, Thomas Turner of Ben Lomond, CA, and his youngest son, Barry W. Turner, who preceded him in death in February, 2010. He was the proud and loving grandfather of his 12 Turner, Fosnaught, and Findler grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren. Also preceding him in death were his brother, Robert Turner; sisters, Jean (Robert) Colbert and Betty (Earl) Kauffman of this area. Howard served his country proudly as a member of the US Army during the Korean War. As leader of the New Wilmington Boy Scout troop, Corky continued as leader of the first coed explorer post. He was a retired customer serviceman with Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania. True to his heritage of American Indian ancestry, he was a skilled hunter and fisherman who looked forward to deer season and to fishing in Canada. As a member of the First Assembly of God, he served as an usher, Sunday morning van driver, greeter, and assisted in many activities. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church on Pulaski Road. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Chad Stoecker officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Assembly of God, 2021 Pulaski Road, New Castle, PA 16105 for children and youth work, or to the City Rescue Mission, 319 S. Croton Avenue, New Castle, PA 16101. Arrangements are by the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Wilmington Road, where online condolences may be offered at www.cunninghamfh.com.
