Howard T. "Tom" Wilcox, 88, of Winter Road, Maple Heights, New Castle, PA 16101, passed away the night of June 13, 2010 in his home.Tom was born on January 9, 1922 in New Castle, to the late Edgar B. and Lilly Skeans Wilcox. He married Grace Reynolds on December 27, 1943. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage. The couple resided in Hermitage, Pennsylvania for 43 years prior to moving to New Castle. A veteran of World War II, he served as First Lieutenant in the Air Force from September of 1942 through October 18, 1945. Tom was employed at Prudential Insurance Company for 36 years, as an insurance agent/staff sales manager. He retired in 1983. He was a co-founder and faithful member of Faith Country Chapel where he served on the Board of Stewards, was the church historian, member of church mission board, and Gideon International. Tom served as a 25 year board member of World Gospel Mission, served as General Conference Lay Leader of Evangelical Methodist Church and enjoyed many years of teaching Sunday school for young adults and adults at his church. Tom was also a faithful volunteer at UPMC Horizon Hospital in Farrell, Pennsylvania. He enjoyed fishing, photography and loved music and gardening.In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and Tom Long of Columbus, IN., Judy Rice of Annapolis, MD., and Nancy and Walter Morgan of Sudbury, MA; seven grandchildren, Gretchen Armer, Julie Howard, Michael Rice, Brian Rice, David Rice, Ross Morgan and Elizabeth Morgan; and four great-grandchildren, Taylor Rice, Sophie Armer, Lily Howard and Addison Howard.He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clarence Eugene Wilcox; and one sister, Betty Jane Porada.Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, Pennsylvania 16105.Services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2010, at Faith Country Chapel, 3818 Old Butler Road, New Castle, Pennsylvania 16101. Tom's son-in-law, the Rev. Tom Long and Rev. Russell Van Nest of Faith Country Chapel will officiate.
