Ilma Miriam Marttala, 83, of New Castle, passed away the morning of February 13, 2015 at the Edison Manor. Ilma was born on May 23, 1931, in New Castle, to the late John Viktor and Mary M. Kalajainen Kukkola. She married Donald O. Marttala on June 14, 1952. He preceded her in passing on October 4, 2005. Mrs. Marttala was a bookkeeper for Dyafoam, Western Hickory Coal and New Castle Business College. she was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Women's Auxiliary. Ilma was a dedicated member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and served as a member of the church council, former member of the choir and the church's financial secretary. She is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-law, Richard D. Marttala, of New Castle, Jeffery W. and Janet Marttalaof Beaverton, OR; one sister and brother-in-law, Irma Mary and Arthur Vogel of Jeffery Hill, FL; 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Marttala was preceded in passing by her brother, Leo J. Kukkola. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10-11 AM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., New Castle. Funeral services will immediately follow visitation at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
