Obituary

Irene Hughes, 91, of 1721 Kerr Street, passed away the afternoon of November 10, 2011 at Jameson Hospital.Born September 26, 1920 in Ellwood City, she was a daughter of John and Bessie Garroway Wilson. She married Frederick P. Hughes in 1941. He preceded her in death on March 11, 2005.She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Ellwood City.Irene was formerly employed with Shenango China where she applied gold embelishments to the china. She then worked at Troutman's Department Store as a sales clerk in the men's department. Irene was then employed with Treasure Island where she worked in the cosmetic department.Among her many interests were crafts, crocheting, knitting, and gardening. She enjoyed being a seamstress and was an avid reader.She was a former member of Northminster Presbyterian Church.She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Terri and Steve Nagel of Tarpon Springs, FL, Trudi and Joseph Quear of New Castle, and Kimberli and Paul Newman of Gaithersburg, MD; one sister, Alwyna Price of Ellwood City; four grandchildren, Melanie, Steven, Stefanie and Kayla; and four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Alea, Alivia and Gege.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy and Bob Wilson; and three sisters, Louise Boyer, Alice Wilson and Ada Doak.Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Wilmington Road.A funeral service will follow immediately at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Andrew Jillson will officiate. Burial will be in the Castle View Mausoleum.Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
