Irvin R. "Hoffie" Hofmeister, age 80, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of Sept. 12, 2019, at his residence. Born October 23, 1938, in New Castle, he was the son to the late Oliver C. & Laura E. (Faller) Hofmeister. He married Patricia L. Myers on Sept. 14, 1957. She preceded him in death on October 5, 2008. Mr. Hofmeister attended Edinburg School and Union High School. He worked for Ohio Edison Company for 41 years, retiring in 1995. He first worked in line construction for 32 years, and later on worked in maintenance for 9 years. Irvin enjoyed many hobbies such as hunting, fishing, wood working, crafting and traveling. He was a member of New Castle Eagles #455 and was a charter member of New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Irvin is survived by one daughter, Kathy Hofmeister of Butler, PA; one son, Jeff and daughter-in-law Susan Hofmeister of North Carolina; two grandchildren, Aaron and Alaina of North Carolina; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Chuck & Cindy Myers of Florida; Tom & Glendora Book of New Castle, PA; sister-in-law & brother-in-law Karen & Ed Hockenberry of North Carolina; nieces and nephews including Jill, Tom, Katelynn & Kaiden Bennett, Eric, Travis, Katie & Trace Book. Along with his parents and wife Patricia, Irvin was preceded in death by one brother, Gene Hofmeister and one brother-in-law, Russ Myers. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 15 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A service will take place on Monday, at the funeral home, at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Chris Curtis of New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
