J. Edwin "Habby" Jackson, 86, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of May 24, 2013 at Jameson Hospital. Born May 23, 1927, in New Castle, he was a son of William Fulton Jackson and Irene Wettich Jackson. He was preceded in death on March 24, 2003 by his wife of 44 years, Betty Vincent Jackson, whom he married October 11, 1958. Ed enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. at the age of 17 and served in both WWII and later in the Korean Conflict as a drill instructor. He was a graduate of Westminster College and was a teacher at New Castle High School, retiring in 1988 after more than 30 years of service. He had coached for boys and girls tennis, both at New Castle, and at Neshannock High School. He enjoyed photography and used his skill by working on the high school yearbook and working part time for the Youngstown Vindicator. Ed served on the Caroline Knox Scholarship Board and was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He was the owner of several cottages at Geneva on the Lake, and was an avid woodworker. Habby is survived by two sons, Andy Jackson and wife Shelli, and Robert Fulton Jackson and wife Nicole, all of New Castle; a brother, W. Robert Jackson of New Castle; and seven grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Flournoy. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday. May 29, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home and will be officiated by Rev. Nathan Loudon. Burial will be in Castleview Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the City Rescue Mission, 319 S. Croton Avenue, New Castle, PA 16101.
