J. Fred Rentz, 90, of New Castle, passed away, peacefully, the morning of August 19, 2015, at his home. Fred was born on October 15, 1924, in New Castle, to the late Jacob Fredrick and Alice McCreary Rentz. He married his loving and devoted wife, Barbara Pagach Rentz, on April 18, 1992. She survives. He trained for the Army Air Corp. in Texas and served in WWII. He flew 30 missions over Germany, flew on D-Day and returned home to marry his high school sweetheart, Suzanne Shannon Rentz, all before turning 20 years old. He attended Carnegie Tech and graduated first in his class. Then, he attended CalTech and received his Master's Degree in electrical engineering. Mr. Rentz's leadership and foresight helped develop and sustain the New Castle News where he served as Co-owner and former publisher. Previously, he worked at North American Aviation, in California, until the passing of his father. Fred was a pillar of the New Castle community. His donations and giving spirit were boundless. He served as a dedicated member of the New Castle Rotary #89 and served on several boards such as Westminster College, founding Board of Habitat for Humanity, and the Board of Governors for the American Red Cross. Fred was a member and elder of the Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School for the Tri-M Class. In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Charles Blakely of Pelzer, SC; one son, Bruce Rentz and his partner, Bruce Haas of Little Rock, AK; 3 grandchildren, Caroline (Gabe) Wood, Emily and Matthew Rentz. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and one brother, Richard Rentz, Sr. Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2429 Wilmington Rd. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Chris Weichman officiating.
