Obituary

James C. Cox, age 90, of New Wilmington, formerly of New Castle, passed away the early morning of Jan. 21, 2020 at Clen-Moore Place, in New Castle. Born Oct. 2, 1929, in New Castle, he was the son to the late Norman L. and Edrye M. (Anderson) Cox. He married the love of his life, Joanne Saylor Cox on Feb. 24, 1951. She preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 2016. Jim graduated from New Castle High School in June of 1947. He joined the United States Army and went to Fort Knox Kentucky for basic training, infantry & tank training in 1951. He went to Korea in 1952 and was assigned to the 5th regimental combat team. He was honorably discharged as Sgt. In 1953. He graduated from Bucknell University Banking School with a degree in banking. He started his banking career in 1948 at Lawrence Savings and Trust. At his retirement in 1994, he had completed 46 years of banking, retiring as the V.P. overseeing Washington Centre, Neshannock, Lawrence Village & Volant Branches. At his retirement he was appointed to the Integra Development Board of Lawrence County. During his lifetime, Jim was involved with many non-profit organizations. He was member of the Lawrence Club and Avalon Golf & Country Club. He enjoyed snow skiing, ice skating, racquet ball at the YMCA and relaxing on the weekends at his cottage in Slippery Rock. He enjoyed the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pitt football and basketball. He was a member of Croton United Methodist Church. The Cox family would like to thank the staff at Clen-Moore Place for the care and attention given to Jim. Jim is survived by one son, Judge J. Craig (Deborah) Cox of New Wilmington, Pa; one daughter, Courtney Cox of Franklin, Pa and one grandson, Christopher J. Cox. Visitation will be held on Thurs. Jan. 23rd from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Fri. Jan. 24th from 10:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Fri. Jan 24th starting at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John Jefferis officiating. Burial will be at Fair Oaks Cemetery in New Wilmington.
