James "Rob" Forsythe, Jr., age 67, formerly of Walnut Street, went to be with his Lord and Savior, the afternoon of January 3, 2022, at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Born July 15, 1954, in New Castle, he was the son of the late James R., Sr. and Charlotte (McFarland) Forsythe. Rob was a graduate of New Castle High School and received a Bachelor of Science from Geneva College. In addition, Rob received a diploma from Sharon Broadcast in broadcast techniques. For several years, he was a dispatcher for the Local Emergency Operations Center. He was also a certified EMT and trained in suicide intervention. Rob spent many hours volunteering for the crisis hotline "Contact EARS" and the American Red Cross as a disaster action team captain where he formulated and implemented a disaster program. Rob also provided emergency communication services for military families and veterans. In addition, he served as secretary and editor for the Lawrence County Committee on Disability. Rob was an artist and a poet and among many of his hobbies, he enjoyed collecting police department patches. He received an Award of Merit in 1982 on behalf of the New Wilmington police department and Borough Council for his design of a new police shoulder patch. Rob also received the "True Grit" award from the Lawrence County Committee on Disability in 1989 and the "Courage to Come Back" award from St. Francis Health Systems in 1992. Rob will always be remembered for helping others while persevering through the challenges he faced. He was a member of First Alliance Church in New Castle. The family would like to thank Rob's friends at Quality Life Services in New Castle for their care over the past few years. Survivors include his loving and devoted Aunt Marlene McFarland of New Castle, and many loving cousins. A family gathering to honor Rob's life will be announced at a later date.
