James Paul Goodpastor, 60, of New Castle, died December 3, 2011 unexpectedly at his residence of an apparent heart attack. Born May 24, 1951 in Pittsburgh, PA, he was a son of Dr. William E. Goodpastor and Marjorie Hatcher Goodpastor. His mother survives in New Castle.Jim graduated from Neshannock High School. He attended Schiller College in Bonnigheim, West Germany, was a Westminster College graduate and earned his paralegal graduate degree from Georgetown University.He worked for a law firm in the D.C. area for a number of years before returning to the New Wilmington area. He worked as a manager of the Country House Christmas Shop. He was proud to work at the family business. He was a past president of the Tourist Promotion Agency of Lawrence County.Jim was a life long member of the First Presbyterian Church in New Castle.Jim enjoyed fishing, collecting Native American artifacts and enjoyed the study of history, especially readings of the Civil War. He was an avid and enthusiastic Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and enjoyed playing the drums and was a member of several bands over the years. He was especially proud of his nieces, Shelley L. Goodpastor and Rebecca Forgione. Over the past years, Jim was dedicated to helping his mother with her illness. Jim will be always remembered for his kindness and enjoyment of family and family gatherings. He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him.He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Goodpastor of New Castle; his sister, Susan Agee and her husband Jon Agee of Ft Lauderdale; his brother, Dr. William Goodpastor and his wife Shelley M. Goodpastor of Sharon; cousins, Betty Jean Areson of Boca Raton, Dr. Kim Hatcher of Indiana, PA, Ms. Sandy Maxcy of Pittsburgh, and Mr.. Jeffrey Hatcher of Minneapolis. He will be missed by his longtime companion and good friend Maxine Bright.He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. William E. Goodpastor.Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Nathan Loudon of First Presbyterian Church will officiate.
