James William Goodrich, Jr., age 88 of New Castle, passed away the evening of Jan. 20, 2021, at Jameson Care Center.
Born July 29, 1932, in Toledo, Ohio, he was the son of the late James and Wanda (Priebe) Goodrich.
He married his beloved wife of 67 years, Marjorie (Senn) Goodrich, whom he met while in the service through her brother, Herbert Senn. Mrs. Goodrich survives at home.
Mr. Goodrich was a graduate of New Castle High School, where he ran cross country and track and was a part of the 1948 WPIAL and PIAA state championship team. James faithfully served in the United States Army, during the Korean War, where he was stationed in Germany as a battery duty sergeant. He was employed by Penn Power, for 42 years, as a meter supervisor. He enjoyed playing golf, and for several years, he played baseball for Ryantown AC, Fee's Grille, and DeCarbo-Rieber in the city league. He was a PIAA Basketball official for 27 years, officiating games all over Western Pa. He was a member of First Assembly of God where he served as an elder and board member. What gave James the most joy in life, was spending time with his family, that he loved dearly.
In addition to his wife, James is survived by his son, James William (Luanne) Goodrich III, of New Castle; two grandchildren, Dr. Louis Goodrich, and Lisa (Dr. Thomas G.) Peters; and two great-grandchildren, James Houston and Madison Victoria Peters.
Along with his parents, James was preceded in death by infant daughter, Kimberly Ann, four brothers, Donald, Elmer, Raymond, and Norman Goodrich, and one sister, Rosemary Ayers.
In keeping with his wishes, all services will be private, for the family.
Burial will be at Reformed Presbyterian Church of New Galilee Cemetery.
