James C. Griffith, Sr., 96, of New Castle, passed away the morning of February 13, 2021 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. James was born on September 9, 1924 to the late Dr. Wilbert E. and Anna M. Craig Griffith. He married the former Mary Ellen Wilson in June of 1948. She preceded him in passing on April 28, 1973. Mr. Griffith worked as a pharmaceutical sales representative for the Upjohn Company. He was a graduate of Westminster college after his service in the US Army 773rd field artillery unit during World War II. James was a lifetime Mason, leader of Boy Scout Troop 43, a member of the Lion's Club, enjoyed hunting and fishing but, his most precious time was spent with his family. Mr. Griffith was a member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church. James is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Mark Grimslid of Mishawaka, IN; his son and daughter-in-law, James C. and Linda Griffith, Jr. of New Castle; One brother, Dr. Wilbert E. Griffith II of Glenshaw, PA; 4 grandchildren, Sarah and Jennifer Grimslid, John (Jessica) Griffith, Julie (James) Wade and one great granddaughter, Lila Wade. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Griffith was preceded in passing by his son, John W. Griffith; his brother, Dr. Harold Griffith and his sister, Margaret Jean Waite. Services will be held privately for the family at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. Rev. Fred Schenker will officiate. CDC guidelines will be in place in regard to wearing masks and social distancing. Due to CDC Pennsylvania guidelines, there may be limited access due to room capacity. Interment will be in Rural Valley Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be given to the charity of the donor's choice in memory of James.
