James W. Hogue, 70, of Slippery Rock Township, passed away at his residence the evening of October 23, 2014.Born December 15, 1943 in New Castle, he was the son of William T. Hogue, Jr. and Erma Jane Weisz Hogue.James married Bonnie McAnany Hogue on April 5, 1963. She survives.A 1961 graduate of Laurel High School, he retired from Ellwood City Forge after 37 years as a layout designer and machinist. Previously he had been a meat cutter for McDevitt Meats in Harlansburg.He enjoyed woodworking, horses, fishing, hunting, and being outdoors, and loved the beauty of wildlife.A lifetime member of Center Church, he served as a trustee.In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Arnold Julian of Ellwood City, and Susan and Scott Shaffer of New Castle; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Cathy Hogue of New Castle; a sister, Ruth Kerr of New Castle; five grandchildren, Lindsey McDanel and her husband, Jason, Jackie Dierickx and her husband, Josh, Zachary Julian, Isaiah Shaffer, and Garett Shaffer; and one great grandson, Noah James Dierickx.James was preceded in death by his father, William; his mother, Erma Jane, on October 6, 2014; and a brother-in-law, Don Kerr.In keeping with his wishes, there will not be any visitation.A memorial service will be held Monday, October 27, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Center Church, 1143 Center Church Road, New Castle.
