James M. Kunselman, age 86, formerly of New Castle, passed away June 8, 2023, in Pittsburgh, PA.

Born January 4, 1937, in Mahoning Township, Armstrong County, he was the son of Amos Samuel Kunselman and Francis Jean (White) Kunselman.

James was preceded in death on July 29, 2022, by his wife of 66 years, Barbara E. (Shaner) Kunselman, whom he married June 9, 1956.

A 1954 graduate of Leechburg High School, James received his Associate Degree from I.C.S. in Scranton, PA. He began working at Hyde Park Foundry and Machine Company until he gained employment with the Crane Company, later Pentex Corporation, as a foundry manager. He retired in 1999 after a 20-year employment with Milwaukee Chaplet Manufacturing Corp. in Wisconsin in regional sales.

Mr. Kunselman was a 33rd Degree Mason past chairman, past president of the Lawrence Caravan #15 Shriners of North America, Past President of Cathedral Foundation, Past Master of Leechburg Lodge F & AM #577, and Mahoning-New Castle Lodge #243 Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle. Among his varied interests, James enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family.

Prior to attending Northminster Presbyterian Church, James was an active member of Epworth UP Church where he served as chairman of the administration board, trustee, chairman of the pastor and parish relations committee, and served in both the music ministry and food ministry.

He is survived by four sons, Timothy J. (Terry) Kunselman of McCandless Township, Brian E. Kunselman of Red Lion, PA, Randy J. (Amy) Kunselman of New Castle and Richard A. (Marsha) Kunselman of Jefferson, GA; two brothers, Samuel J. Kunselman of Ethridge, TN and Homer E. Kunselman of Wilmington, NC; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Dale Kunselman and William C. Kunselman; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Kunselman; and a great grandchild, Christian.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 13, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, followed by a Masonic Service at 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be private for the family with Rev. Jordan Rimmer officiating.

James will be laid to rest beside his wife at Castle View Memorial Gardens.
