James (Abie) Wilbert Martin, 98, of Edinburg, passed away the morning of May 26, 2014, at his home. James was born on September 1, 1915, in New Castle, to the late Fred E. and Bertha Boyd Martin. He married Wanda Hanna Martin on October 12, 1940. She preceded him in passing on December 19, 1987. Subsequently he married Ruth Hanna McClelland on December 28, 1988. She survives at home. James was employed as an electrician with U.S. Steel before retiring in 1967 after 30 years of service. He was also a self employed dairy farmer before retiring after 50 years in the industry. Mr. Martin was a graduate of Union High School and served in the US Navy during WWII. James was a member of the Mahoning Valley Grange #1649, a mason in the Lodge of the Craft #433. He enjoyed bowling and was a faithful follower of the Pittsburgh Pirates. James held the Lord and his family as his highest priority. Mr. Martin was a member of the Mahoning Presbyterian Church for more than 80 years. He served his church in many different capacities and attended Prime Timers at Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife, Mr. Martin is survived by seven daughters and six sons-in-law, Susan and Ray Stone of Nocogdoches, TX, Rebbecca and John Cole of Deltona, FL, Margaret and Charles Phipps of Edinburg, PA, Janet and Richard Wamboldt of Mercer, PA, Laura and Clayton Stephens of Palmyra, PA, Sarah and David Erskine of Edinburg, PA, and Louellen Willick of Naranja, FL; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Cheryl McClelland of Warren, OH; 20 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren. James was preceded in passing by his parents; first wife, Wanda; a son-in-law, Eldon Willick; and two sisters, Helen Jane Jacobson and Doris Schofe.Visitation will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A funeral service will take place on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mahoning Presbyterian Church, 4401 Skyhill Road, Pulaski, PA 16143. Rev. Richard Byerly will officiate.Burial will be in Mahoning Presbyterian Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mahoning Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 4401 Skyhill Rd., Pulaski, PA 16143.
