James W. McCullough, 73, of New Castle passed away the afternoon of August 16, 2013 at his residence. James was born on March 7, 1940, in New Castle, to the late William and Beatrice Beck McCullough. He married Ms. Anne Salmen on October 16, 1965. She survives. Mr. McCullough spent a major portion of his career as a grocery store manager for numerous area chains. James also worked at Linton Piping and later Xaloy. He served his country in the US Navy during the Cuban missile crisis. Mr. McCullough was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed racing cars in his youth. James was a long time member of the Good Shepard Lutheran Church. In addition to his wife, James is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Gary Holtzapple, Jr. of Etters, PA, Heather and David Ratvasky of Edinburg, PA; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Gina McCullough of Austintown, OH; two sisters, Elaine Martin of Upland, CA, Alice Linton of New Castle; and three grandchildren, Brandon Ratvasky and Cassie and Christian Holtzapple. He was preceded in passing by his parents and two brothers, William and Samuel McCullough.Visitation will be held Monday, August 19, 2013, from 2-4 p.m. with a memorial service following at 4:00 p.m. at R.
